GLORY

Many people have got in contact whilst on tour supporting ‘Collabro’ wanting to know the lyrics to various songs that I’ve written. This was one that wasn’t penned down anywhere and was written about my days in a musical theatre school and the gruelling and cruel regime that strip performers down and leave you completely deflated. I regard everyone that has a career in musical theatre, be it actors dancers or any other cast member, with such high esteem. They truly are and admirable and brave bunch.   Hope you like it and the words are poignant to you, whatever your ‘Glory’ story.

GLORY

What am I still doing here?

You made me feel like I don’t belong here.

Now it’s been one long year,

That’s enough for me.

No it aint worth my tears,

You and your dictatorship.

Don’t come running back for a wish,

When I’m gone, sailing on my own.

While the tide is running out,

Ain’t gonna wear me down,

Beneath my feet there’s solid ground.

Take him by the hand,

You and your man,

While I get my shit together.

Gonna walk this on my own,

Back to what I know,

You can have your glory and I’ll have mine.

Made my mind up a long time ago,

Don’t wanna be a part of this show anymore.

At least not for a while,

‘Till I regain my smile,

I got bigger things to do with my time.

I mean no disrespect,

But I’m just tryin’ to protect myself,

And my mental heath.

So take him by the hand,

You and your man,

While I get my shit together.

Gonna walk this on my own,

Back to what I know,

You can have your glory and I’ll have mine.

It was fun while it lasted,

Now its time to put it in the past and move on.

I’m not who I was in September,

But I’m just tryin’ to remember my roots and grow.

I wish you all the best.

I doubt you’ll ever forget my face,

And my proud ways.

But for now,

Take him by the hand,

You and your man,

While I get my shit together.

Gonna walk this on my own,

Back to what I know,

You can have your glory…

Take him by the hand,

You and your man,

While I get my shit together.

Gonna walk this on my own,

Back to what I know,

You can have your glory,

You can have your glory,

You can have your glory and I’ll have mine.

Ooh, I love learning the meanings behind lyrics…I’m constantly Googling songs for just that that reason. This is especially cool, because we have the goods straight from the composer…thank you, Georgia! Now when I sing along, it will be with new insight. 😎 Nothing can be done about my sorry voice, though!!! 🤪🤪🤪
